Registered schools
Schools must be registered to receive the necessary passwords to participate in the following activities, available from 1 March 05.
- Postcards
- Questions and messages
- Audio conferences
Using the website password
Each time a student selects to send a postcard, question or message they will be asked to enter the password.
First name: Enter only the first name of the student or students.
Last name: Required but not displayed on the website.
School name: Required but not displayed on the website.
Password: All registered schools receive the password. Give students the password when using the site in class.
Searching the postcards, questions and messages
To find a particular entry (e.g. a student from your class) search on the first name and last name, as it was entered by the student. The search results will show the entries that match.

Circle of Friends
This section introduces the children from Malawi: Jessie, her best friends Chimwemwe and Lute, twins Benson and Benwell, their soccer referee Yosofati and his cousin Kunthata.
- Read about these children and view photo albums of their daily life.
Tip: Younger readers can look at the photo albums with short captions.
- Take a virtual tour of Nthondo where the circle of friends live.
- Complete the treasure hunt.

- Send online postcards.
Tip: Students choose a circle of friends child to send a postcard to. Draft a message and have it checked by the teacher. Then students can go online to enter and submit their postcard. The 'Circle of Friends' password is needed for this activity. You can also search the postcards.
Throughout March 05 a selection of postcards will be printed and given to the circle of friends children by Marjory, the travelling teacher, when she is in Malawi.

This section contains easy to read background information and photos about Malawi, for student reference.
Marjory in Malawi
During March 05, Marjory, our travelling teacher brings Malawi to your classroom via a travel diary, answering student questions and receiving their messages. Students can also interact with Marjory through the audio conferences.

Visit these pages each school day in March 05 to read Marjory's latest news.
- Sending messages and questions to Marjory.
Messages: Students or groups can draft a message for Marjory telling her about what they have been studying. Once it's been checked they can go online to enter and submit their message.
Questions: Students may have questions from Marjory's travel diary or things they want to know more about from their study. Select their best questions and go online to submit them. Choose ones that can't be answered from information already on the website. Allow one week for Marjory's answer to appear on the website.
The 'Circle of Friends' password is needed to send a message or question. You can also search the questions and messages.
- Audio conferences
Listen or participate in the live audio conferences at 9.30am NZ time on Wednesday 9th and Thursday 17th. Alternatively see the answers on the website two or three days after each audio conference.

Info Zone
This section contains more detailed information on HIV/AIDS and its impact on Malawi and the community of Nthondo. Two interactive quizzes engage students in their learning.
- The HIV/AIDS handbook
The handbook contains up-to-date information with graphics that allows older students and teachers to gain an in-depth understanding of HIV/AIDS.
- Nthondo news
Magazine-style stories feature personalities, activities and events from the Nthondo community's response to HIV/AIDS.
Students can complete the multi-choice quizzes at the beginning of the unit and record their initial score. Compare this with the score they get at the end of the unit.
Alternatively, students can continue to correct their answers until they achieve their best score, using links to extra information to help them.
Spread the Word (Available from 1 March 05)
This section is about young people undertaking social action on HIV/AIDS. Stories and photos gathered from around the world will be selected to add to this section. Send in stories and photos of your students taking part in social action. Encourage students to report on the activities themselves. Get ideas for social action from these pages and adapt them for your own situation.
